Carriage driving since 2008
After purchasing an adorable baby mini from Back of the Moon Farm in Southport, CT, I realized I needed to eventually give her a job other than keep my riding horse company!  I learned that a long-time CVDC member and driver, Andree Duggan lived in my town.  We soon got together and she showed me the ropes for safe practices in harnessing and took me out on a few drives with her horse.  She also set me up as a navigator at the CVDC Horse Driving Trial where I learned a great deal about driving in one weekend!  As a life-long rider, I had plenty of horse sense that easily transferred to the driving world.  That summer, my mini’s former owner, Joan McMahon suggested that we show at “a large carriage driving show in NY”.  It turned out to be the Lorenzo Carriage Driving Competition in Cazenovia for which we were not quite prepared but we learned a lot and had a fantastic time!  I have found that carriage driving people are fun, willing to share and are willing to invite you to tag along on their carriages/carts to learn.  I love that two or three people can drive together and share a fun horse experience together! Now I am a PATH certified driving instructor for persons with disabilities and also teach others to drive and enjoy their horses in a new way.
