April 30: SPRING CLINIC WITH SCOTT MONROE at High Hopes, Lyme, CT
Scott Monroe is a native of Connecticut and lived in Sharon until recently. He was a three time National Combined Driving Single Horse Champion in 2005, 2006 and 2011, has represented the United States three times internationally at the USET level as well as once for Canada as a navigator. Honored with USEF Horse of the Year twice as well as Reserve HOTY twice and Morgan Horse of the Year with Shadow, a stunning black Morgan.
Scott has more than 20 years of driving and training experience and uses many methods of Natural Horsemanship. He is a PATH Level 2 Therapeutic Driving Instructor, ADS Combined Driving Judge and Technical Delegate. He offers clinics and private lessons nationwide.

• Auditors: CVDC members $10/day, Non-members $20/day
High Hopes has a spacious indoor arena with non-dusty footing and a heated observation suite with seating. Bathrooms, vending machines, and large center aisles for grooming and harnessing are some of the features — just a lovely facility with easy in-and-out and parking for trailers. Stalls are @ $35/day if you would like one. There is a lunch room for auditors and participants to use.

May 6: Kentucky Derby Party / Club Meeting
Other Info: Our May meeting routinely falls on Kentucky Derby Day - let's watch it together! Games and contests, maybe a little friendly wager. Time: 3 – 6 PM. Where: 22R Hicksville Road, Cromwell, CT. (Hicksville Road is a right turn off Route 372 up the hill from Exit 19 off Route 9 - Or off Route 91, exit 21, turn left onto 372, after going over Route 9 look for Hicksville Rd on right). July 15: Driving Derby at Mitchell Farm:
CT Valley Driving Club’s Driving Derby competition consists of three rounds over a course consisting of pairs of cones and marathon-type obstacles in a . Each driver will be timed through a numbered course of obstacles/gates in the proper direction and in numerical order to the finish line. Total time determines placings and the lowest time wins.
We are offering both training level and preliminary level. Drivers may enter horses of any breed and size, from minis to drafts. $40 per entry. Helmets & Coggins/rabies required. Groom required for all turnouts except single mini or single small pony. Gates open at 9 am, mandatory driver’s meeting at 10 am, first competitor on course at 11 am.

August 12: Club Drive: Salmon River Airline Trail

Where: Salmon River Airline Trail (map) 231 River Rd. Colchester, CT
River Road follows the bank of the Salmon River from where Jeremy Brook joins Blackledge River to create the Salmon River. Our drive will follow this road to the Comstock Bridge, one of only a few covered bridges in CT. There, after we view the Bridge, we will turn around and return along the same road back to our parking lot.
Directions: Route 2 to Exit 16 (route 149) Right onto 149 to River Road (from either direction on Rt 2) Follow River Road (winding & hilly) to junction of South Rd and River Rd. Note State Park Sign and CVDC Sign Continue Left on River Road to parking lot on right.
From Route 16: can be tricky because if coming from East Hampton you will actually pass the Comstock Bridge. DO NOT turn in there. Proceed to the intersection of 16 and 149; turn left onto rt 149. River Rd will be on your left. (If you are traveling north on 149 cross over 16, continue on 149 until you reach River Rd on your left.) Google maps does a good job of showing this. If in doubt, call or email Marguerite.

Merge onto CT Rte 11 at Exit 19, toward New London. Take Exit 4 off Rte 11. At bottom of ramp go Right onto Rte 82 West. Go .2 mile to first driveway on the right. From the South (New Haven): Take I-95 North to Exit 70. Go left at the bottom of the ramp onto Rte 156. Go 8 miles to the “T” at Rte 82 (East Haddam Rd.) Turn right onto Rte 82. Mitchell Farm is 3.5 miles on the left, just before Rte 11. From the North (Boston) (I-95): Take I-95 South to Exit 82. Right at bottom of ramp onto Rte 85 North. Go 10 miles to the Roundabout at Rte 82. Go left (East) onto Rte 82 (East Haddam Road). Mitchell Farm is 1.5 miles on the right just after the Rt. 11 underpass.
