Who We Are

Our Mission: The Connecticut Valley Driving Club, Inc. (CVDC) is formed to promote the enjoyment of all aspects of carriage and sleigh driving by providing historical context, offering educational and sporting opportunities, and encouraging safety.

Established in the 1970′s, we are a network of horse people with varied interests and experience, joining together for support, educational programs and social activities. Club members meet monthly for a potluck meeting and program. CVDC hosts drives for members at different locations around scenic Eastern Connecticut. The club has members of all ages, from junior drivers to experienced seniors. We also welcome equine breeds and sizes from minis to draft horses. You do not have to know how to drive to belong, nor even own a horse. Our club is friendly and is a fun place to learn and meet others with the same interests. Drivers are the friendliest of horse people, always looking out for each other or lending a hand. CVDC is a member of the American Driving Society.

All the major planning for club activities takes place by Committees, who bring details to monthly club meetings for feedback and majority voting / approval. Here is a list of CVDC Committees.

  • Drive — plan club drives, scout new locations, take care of logistics
  • Programs — plan club programs, contact speakers, provide info to Communications Committee
  • Communications — communicate with club members via email, print and web (website, Long Lines, email blasts)
  • Nominating – compile and propose the Officer slate for annual election

If you would like to learn more about, or join a committee, please let us know!
