Pachaug is a great place to drive. In the Chapman area is the Frog Hollow Horse Camp -- a large circular road with 18 horse camp sites for parking, a center green with picnic camp fire area. Nice non-paved woods roads.

DIRECTIONS from Route 395 heading north. Take Exit 85, and continue straight past the first intersection (164) to Route 138 and turn RIGHT> Drive 6.5 miles and turn LEFT onto Route 49, and contineue .6 of a mile just past the river, and turn LEFT into Pachaug State Forest on the LEFT. Follow that road in until you get to the intersection and stay towards the left. Don’t go towards the office. Then simply follow the signs for the Frog Hollow Horse Camp in the Chapman area.

DIRECTIONS from Route 395 heading south. Take Exit 85, turn LEFT onto Route 138 and follow directions above.

Other Info
This will be a multi-driving club campout and drive with CVDC, Rhode Island Driving Club and Eastern CT Draft Horse Association the weekend of May 22-23 - but you don't have to campout. You can come either day to drive. Members usually arrive mid-morning either day, and drive out in small groups at will. Because it's a camping weekend, people will likely go for a second drive in the afternoon. Lawrenceville Road is closed- other roads in the park are OK for carriages. All carriage clubs welcome but there are only 18 horse camp sites, so first come, first serve. We usually don’t fill all 18, so if you want to come, come along and your chances are pretty good to get a spot.

Here is the map from last year, Driving Loop Map for your convenience with a 5.5 mile loop, a 4.5 m short cut home, and 2.5 mile flat up and back loop. So people are welcome to just head out when they want in small groups any time you like. Your choice. Please don't go out alone and bring your cell phone on your person just in case you need help.

After the drive, you can hang out and socialize, eat and have fun by your trailer or join others on the center green. Bring chairs, food, regular supplies. Park does have horse water and an outhouse, but always a good idea to bring your own — just in case. Water that is, not outhouse! This is a horse camp, so there are nice sturdy places to tie your horses overnight, or you can keep them in the trailer.
